AWS: This feature will be accessible soon.
Me: Cool, is there a way I can be notified?
AWS: Sure, we'll post about it on the What's New blog for media services, here's the URL.
Me: I don't see any syndication feed?
AWS: I thought you could get email updates?

Turns out there's a single RSS feed for updates to all the AWS products, but no way of getting a filtered feed by category/product, which makes it into a useless firehose. ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

#DevLife
@Matthew Graybosch Plot twist: there is not email input either.
@Matthew Graybosch I assume the people working on individual products arenโ€™t the same working on the updates blog.
How can you interact with AWS and not expect abuse? Why not have some self-respect? ๐Ÿ˜€
@Ted What did you think you would achieve with your reply? Speaking of respect, a simple question about why I have to use AWS would have gone a long way. Going further, I've never had terribly negative interactions with AWS, either their products or their employees, so your banter rings hollow to me.
@Ted
Yes, I was certainly shooting from the hip. My apologies. If your experiences have been mostly positive, I may have the wrong impression of the company.
@Ted Thank you, but then I'm curious, what brought you to that loathing place regarding AWS?
@Ted
@Hypolite Petovan Is there an RSS reader that can be configured to only notify you of posts that contain a specified keyword? If not, someone (maybe me?) should make that.
@Jonathan Lamothe I mean, I could follow the feed on Friendica and collapse anything not about the target product, but it's a line between professional and personal that I'm not comfortable crossing just yet.
Surveillance Capitalism is not a process I trust, so in my mid, the big companies involved in "managing" our data are the most likely bad actors. Call it a bias, an unfounded grudge, or something else, but I think these huge companies have too much influence and the temptation to misuse their power will lead to problems for us little people.
@Ted What surveillance do you think AWS does? Iโ€™ve come to separate them from Amazon itself that I wonโ€™t touch with a ten foot pole. They are in very different kind of businesses.
@Ted
@Hypolite Petovan My mistrust of AWS is not based on any direct knowledge I have about their policies or misdeeds. It's just my general observation that most large companies will do whatever they can to make more profits. The temptation will eventually cause some to act inappropriately.
So, please do tell @Hypolite Petovan, why do you use the services of AWS?
@Ted At my job where I donโ€™t make any technical decision. We were forced to move from a cozy self-hosted architecture to a shiny AWS mesh I have a barely workable understanding of and rarely access to these days because of Linux platform incompatibility in a Docker context (words uttered by the deranged).
@Ted
@Hypolite Petovan This is why I could never be a "professional" sysadmin. I know nothing about Docker (and AWS) because I have no reason to use it, and it's made me want to throw things the few times I've tried.
Oh! Well, that sounds like a different kind of hell in itself. ๐Ÿ™ Deep sigh
