In the Adult Fan of #LEGO (#AFOL) world, there's this concept of "dark age", a period of time after childhood when LEGOs are abandoned before being rediscovered again into adulthood.

My personal history sure fits this concept, with my dark age lasting between 1999 and 2019.
Interesting. I guess I'm lucky to not have had such a dark age.
Ha ha ha, I didn’t dig into the concept myself, but I’m glad it’s been written about extensively.

In retrospect, I wouldn’t have been able to avoid my dark age, in that time period I’ve lived in several places, some of them not even my own (college years), moved over the Atlantic, been traveling extensively, and had a kid too young to enjoy them.

My rekindling wasn’t even related to him, but to my lucky LEGO bin find. He’s currently less into them than me!

My dark age lasted about six months: Between me moving out of my parent's house and in with some friends... and my housemate coming home excitedly with one of the first Star Wars sets.
Thanks :) I've never looked back since.
I only need one modest Lego set to get my juices going. I like working within the limitations, and it takes less space anyway.
@Isaac Kuo I went from admiring display models from afar and buying play feature-rich set to now admiring play feature-rich set from afar and buying display models. The common thread is that I'm pretty much lost without a reference, instructions, etc...

That's why I was so glad to find out about Rebrickable, a website where amateur LEGO designers can post their creations, including a complete inventory and a digital file and/or instructions to build them. Many offer them for free, but some charge money for every instruction copy sold. They usually are higher quality, both for the model and the instructions themselves, or for higher part count designs.
You forgot the Warhammer Period inbetween :)
@Beko Pharm Ha, I was lucky to never fall into this as I am allergic to painting, but I do know the universes (both Warhammer and 40K) extensively from hanging with people with better skill and patience than me.
