I’m uncomfortable with loitering on sidewalks, not as much because it’s occupying a public space which I’m fine with, but rather because it is overwhelmingly done by men. This begs the question: where are the women? What are they doing while these men loiter outside? Why aren’t they with them, either way?

Women don't loiter. Loitering is unladylike. Women ... I dunno ... congregate?

@Mike P I can tell you where I see women standing on the sidewalk, waiting in line before the community pantry opens. Few men in sight then.
Men occupy public space much more than women. That's certainly related.
