@devporto the plugin uses you blogs host. if your site is configured with "www." it is part of your handle, because I cannot assume, that it always works without ".www". So if you want it without the subdomain, you have to reconfigure your wordpress.
What would be the point? Domains are a fundamental part of the unique Webfinger addresses. Even if the non www. domain exists, it may not host an ActivityPub endpoint or worse, a different endpoint that may not know the same user.
@devporto cause user@www.domain.tld is not how anyone expects a username to work. And someone setting the plugin should be well aware that that is what they are getting themselves into. It looks bad, and should have some UX explaining why you might want to set up your blog differently.
I understand why you don’t like the aesthetics of www. but I don’t think it’s universal and it’s a mistake to assume the person who did the setup don’t know what they’re doing.
@devporto I disagree. I dont think that almost anyone would chose to have a username @www its completely non standard. they are tagged in this post so they can answer themselves if they want.
It is working fine with Friendica which means it isn’t non-standard. I’m not even sure what you mean by @www, since the full Webfinger is devporto@www.devport.com?
@devporto I mean nonstandard in what is expected by humans. not that its against activitypub standards. I meant @www like @name@www.actualname.tld which I dont think should ever be a default setting. Not that it cant work if someone *did* specifically want that.
@devporto I am unsure why your being so hostile to my opinions. Your welcome to disagree of course. I do not at all think its about aesthetics. we are talking about the ability for a person on the fediverse being able to @ another person on the fediverse. if I follow 5 wordpress accounts that are set up like this and type @blog or @admin I have expectations about what is right and what is wrong. its like the same as if someone shares their website by sending just the ip.
I disagree because I think you’re using “right” and “wrong” too liberally about aesthetics and convenience.
The AP plugin isn’t setup “wrong”, www. isn’t a “wrong” domain, it isn’t “non-standard” either. I agree it’s unusual, somewhat inconvenient in your case, definitely unsightly, but absolutely not “wrong”.
I even believe that by using “wrong” this cavalier way, you won’t elicit a positive response because you’re just criticizing a little too harshly someone’s setup that actually works.
@devporto I agree I could use better language. Everything I say is just an opinion. I don't want to criticize anyones hard work. I think @pfefferle's plugin is awesome and I am super glad it exists. I want everyone to be able to easily get a presence on the fediverse with the least hassle possible. I want non technically inclined people to have the easiest possible onramp to joining in the freedom of getting a presence "here" that they and they "alone" control.
