Re-sharing because I was really surprised, does it happen often for artists to stop performing a song during a live show and just move on with their playlist?

Went to a The Midnight show in Brooklyn yesterday and two things things happened I had never experienced before:
- They performed a remix version of one of their song they didn't produce themselves.
- They started to play a song, stopped a few bars in on the singer's accord, and moved on with the playlist, never to play it again.

The former was bittersweet, I enjoyed the nod to the remixing artists but I personally prefer the original version.
The latter was absolutely gobsmacking to me. Maybe I'm used to sharper shows that give less leeway to the artist?

It happens, often if the band has been struggling with the song in rehearsal and theyโ€™ve backed themselves into a corner that the best thing to do is move on.
@Brad Koehn Thanks, I haven't been to that many live shows but this was the very first time this happened. I guess I've been used to more polished shows.
I've seen all kind of shit like what you describe at live show...
But I tend go at those with a lot of leeway... ๐Ÿ˜€
