If it's Euro truck simulator 2 you are playing, I can remember that they only had quite limited areas integrated in the game and my home region wasn't as "hillily" modelled as it was in reality. Apart from that, it's obvious to me that German landscape must be boring to a Frenchman 😁 I haven't played many recent games set in today's Germany. Many, including newer games are set in older times. This list also agrees with your impression that most such games are racing or sports games. A bit disappointing actually.
