LEGO bin update: 2nd and 3rd bin
Three weeks ago, I went on a Craigslist spree and bought 3 bins of unsorted LEGO parts. I've started guessing sets from the most specific parts and reconstituting those sets. I even started to give #LEGO bins nicknames to recognize them.
First, there was the Sidewalk bin that yielded 21 mostly vintage sets.
The second one is the Toms River bin, from the New Jersey state town I drove to pick it up. So far it's been the most disappointing of all. Not only it was very expensive to drive there, but I had no time for sight-seeing and the bin itself had several identifiable sets but not enough parts for each to be interesting to reconstitute. Out of the 22 identified sets, I built exactly none from this bin. Next!
The third one is the Piermont bin, from this cute Hudson Valley town I picked the box up. Not only this bin had several almost complete sets, it also featured several themes I wouldn't have bought sets from: Friends, Toy Story, Marvel Comics, DC Comics, Nexo Knights, Star Wars or Minecraft. Here are the sets I reconstituted:
And here are the runner-up sets I tried to reconstitute from the bin but didn't buy the missing parts because they didn't feel nice enough to justify it:
Once again, I found 22 sets in a LEGO bin, which seems to be a magic number tying all first three bins I sorted.
I'll keep you updated about the next bin in a month or so when it'll be sorted and reconstituted, until then keep on bricking!

Not only this bin had several almost complete sets, it also featured several themes I wouldn't have bought sets from: Friends, Toy Story, Marvel Comics, DC Comics, Nexo Knights, Star Wars or Minecraft. Here are the sets I reconstituted:
- 7590 - Toy Story - Woody and Buzz to the Rescue (2010)
- 70335 - Nexo Knights - Ultimate Lavaria (2016)
- 41322 - Friends - Snow Resort Ice Rink (2017)
- 41311 - Friends - Heartlake Pizzeria (2017)
- 41332 - Friends - Emma's Art Stand (2018)
- 41335 - Friends - Mia's Tree House (2018)
- 9499 - Star Wars - Gungan Sub (2012): Jar-Jar!
- 75051 - Star Wars - Jedi Scout Fighter (2014)
- 75194 - Star Wars - First Order TIE Fighter Microfighter (2018)
- 75193 - Star Wars - Millennium Falcon Microfighter (2018)
- 70913 - The LEGO Batman Movie - Scarecrow Fearful Face-off (2017)
- 10665 - Marvel - Spider-Man: Spider-Car Pursuit (2014)
- 76115 - Marvel - Spider Mech vs. Venom (2019)
- 21153 - Minecraft - The Wool Farm (2019)
And here are the runner-up sets I tried to reconstitute from the bin but didn't buy the missing parts because they didn't feel nice enough to justify it:
- 60000 City Fire Motorcycle (2013): Despite being extremely topical regarding the past year, it just was too small to warrant any kind of money spent on it.
- 75132 - Star Wars - First Order Battle Pack (2016): Wrong theme, wrong trilogy, wrong side, too small, and full of shooters projecting small parts everywhere, just no.
- 60184 - City - Mining Team (2018): While I appreciate the woman miner, it's just too small.
- 4637 - Basic Set - Safari Building Set (2012): I don't like basic sets nor safaris. Next.
- 10743 - Cars - Smokey's Garage (2017): I like Cars but this is a Junior (4+) set with cruelly few parts. I ended up building it anyway without the few missing parts.
- 70410 - Pirates - Soldiers Outpost (2015): The octopus is cute, but the set is small and I have a better use for the minifigs and the cannon towards the MOC I'm building.
- 41328 - Friends - Stephanie's Bedroom (2018): Alright, there's only so much I can be excited for LEGO Friends sets. The smaller of the five I reconstituted, it got shafted as a result.
- 8958 - Power Miners - Granite Grinder (2009): Actually from the Toms River bin, I found the large orange pincer that's unique to this set and a stickered part so I tried, but only got 45% of the way to the full inventory. Not worth it.
Once again, I found 22 sets in a LEGO bin, which seems to be a magic number tying all first three bins I sorted.
I'll keep you updated about the next bin in a month or so when it'll be sorted and reconstituted, until then keep on bricking!

•Many minifigures are specific to a single set, to this is often the easiest way of identifying a set. But it doesn't guarantee the rest of the set's parts are in the bin! I've had several disappointments like this, where a set-unique minifigure ends up not yielding a full set.
Beyond that, certain parts in certain color are featured in few sets which makes them rare by themselves. So begins a fun puzzle work of cross-referencing parts to increase the likelihood of a specific set to have participated in the conception of the bin.
The worst for me has been the brick boxes like the 10696 Medium Brick Box, because I have no interest in reconstituting them but they somehow feature uncommon color part combinations. So I've been excited to find a part with few sets before realizing it was part of such a box.
