Hi folks, I'm looking to play a non-Early Access strategy/management #videogame with indirect orders like Dwarf Fortress or Tropico, but I don't care about any sandbox aspect, I'd like it to be story-driven and/or level-based like Frostpunk or EndZone: A World Apart.

Any idea?
Thanks, I played it when it was put on Free Play for a week-end, but I found the production chains to be too repetitive given the few alternatives for the critical resources.
Thanks, I found it too close to Theme Hospital to grab my attention: https://blog.mrpetovan.com/review/video-game/project-hospital-20-years-later-finally-a-worthy-successor-to-theme-hospital/

Maybe I should list all the matching titles I already played:
- Banished
- Castle Story
- EndZone - A World Apart
- Evil Genius 1 & 2
- Frostpunk
- A Game of Dwarves
- Kingdoms and Castles
- Lethis - Path of Progress
- Little Big Workshop
- Majesty 1 and 2
- Planetbase
- Prison Architect
- Project Hospital
- RimWorld
- The Settlers (all of them)
- Spacebase DF-9
- The Spatials
- Startopia (2001)
- Surviving Mars
- Theme Hospital
- Towns
- Tropico (all of them)
- Valhalla Hills
Ah thanks, I believe I have it in my Epic Game Store wishlist. It reminds me of the upcoming video game Terra Nil in a similar theme but different mechanics.
Thank you for the continuing suggestions, I never could get into Dungeons 1 and 2 because they were too puzzle-y, the 3 was closer to my heart but then War for the Overworld was so much more fun to me that I didn't spend much time with it beyond the campaign.
I ended up buying Before We Leave on Steam, so far it's very cute but I'm not impressed yet. I'm not sure it has to do with the game itself though.
Rimworld and Keeper RL are great games similar to DF but lacking that level depth/complexity. Rimworld especially has an elaborate modding community. Kingdom (I played Two Crowns recently) is a bite-sized game based on worker management that's beautiful and worth a play-through
I own and like RimWorld that I originally backed on Kickstarter but I've been taking my distances with the game since the creator went full GamerGate.

Thanks for the Kingdom suggestion, I forgot about this video game series!
How about Humankind ? Or Rise of industry ? ... or in another genre, the xcom series ?
Thank you for the suggestions, however they don't really fit the "indirect orders" category.

About your individual suggestions, I haven't played Humankind yet, but I extensively played all the Civilization and Endless games before and the reviews are mixed.
I own Rise of Industry and I played it for a little while before uninstalling it but I forgot to note why I didn't stick with it.
I'm also a big fan of the XCOM series, back to the very first game published in 1994, the UFO series, and the modern reboots, but I haven't mustered the courage to start a XCOM 2 game yet given the time commitment it requires.
I see... a connoisseur πŸ˜€ in xcom genre, i have my eyes on wartales for now, still in early access.

Indirect orders huh... how about settlers 3 for some retro, or the caesar series ?

oh! Did you try Stronghold maybe, there's also some battles....

I love dungeon keeper, the original one. The second opus is not too bad also.

Still retro and back to xcom genre... jagged alliance 2 πŸ˜€
Haven't heard of Wartales before, thanks for the tip! As a personal rule I don't play Early Access games until they are released in full version, otherwise I get tired of the whole game before it even gets a chance to be finished.

The Settlers, been there done that, Stronghold too, Dungeon Keeper as well, big personal favorite, Jagged Alliance 2 as well, didn't find the same spark in the newer games though.

If you want more examples of what I played in the genre I described: https://friendica.mrpetovan.com/display/735a2029-1861-ad3d-6c74-ca7830626140
