Content warning: The FFS Project: Poll for native / fluent Québécois French speakers about a rude phrase
I'm collecting phrases that are used in the same manner as an exasperated "for fuck's sake" in English - imagine shouting in angry frustration at a news headline - what would you shout?
If there are many things you would shout, tell me your favourite!
A few have already been suggested & are in a poll below, but feel free to suggest others (if 'something else' wins, I will pester you with a second poll!)
My spelling will be off, as I do not speak French. But years ago I overhead an extremely frustrated French woman hurling out the phrase "Bordel de merde!" It has been one of my go-to profanities in times of frustration ever since.
Apologies for this, but in the first hour that the above poll went out there has been a deluge of people saying that the most common one isn't included, so I'm doing another poll. Sorry.
Learning from this, for other languages I'm going to post the list first, to give time for any late entries 😁
If you voted in the last it would be great if you could vote again, please & thank you.
I have to ask: does it mean a shitty brothel, a brothel for people who enjoy coprophilia, a brothel literally constructed out of shit or is the answer a secret fourth meaning?
@eclectech @Joachim Selliken The closest translation would be “shitty brothel” indeed, but as a phrase it has no meaning except being offensive. It’s like the rarer “bordel à cul de putain” which can roughly be translated as “brothel of whore’s ass” which hardly makes any sense. People will know you’re cussing though.
