These are snow barriers to prevent large swaths of snow to slide on top of unsuspecting passers-by.

Interesting, I thought you'd be used to it in Canada with the snow and all, but maybe the use of these barriers is very localized.

It must be a design that we don't have much around here for some reason. Perhaps we prefer roof collapses rather than snow slides? 😉
