During the last decade people have actively ditched personal websites and flocked to several centralized platforms. Then to several centralized messengers. Which helped neither hosting nor domain businesses
The longer this federating movement continues, the longer hosting providers have stable clients. As for domains, who'd use all these new TLDs, if not for new instances? 🤷

But I notice .community instances appearing, and it sounds like the best choice for any themed node.
TLD renewal is pricey though.
