thank you for sharing 🙏! Incredible to see the process. In many ways, this reminds me of how I build complicated things: slowly growing out some areas, then integrate them, very cool 🤩!
@22 Thanks for noticing. yes, drawing and painting takes so much time that I often have time to change my mind on the way. The hammer shape change was a suggestion from Forgejo team, but I also changed the viking helmet into steampunk glasses, and I also found the 'forging and acorn' on the way.
@22
Would you be okay if I ask some blacksmiths to look at it and provide feedback?

@22
@22
That's so adorable ❤️
Krita has a recorder feature now? Dang, I wish I'd had that a couple years ago when I was doing lots of whiteboard videos.
@pauldaoust Yes, it's a docker named "Recorder" and has all options to capture and export. I'll try to make a video about it on my channel soon.
Wow. Gonna research it next time I need it. Thanks.
Hold the effing phone. Krita has built-in process recording ? Thats awesome
@daskaloskakos Yes it was part of Krita 5. I'll try to make a video about how to use it. It's a docker 'Recorder' and pretty easy to use once familiar with the user interface.
how cool! Thank you for sharing!
Ha ! Ben ça c'est un sacré GIF! 👍

@mh Hard to tell for this one, the Krita Recorder only add frame to the animation when I paint, and on Sunday I watched videos in the middle, was on phone, had chat, and was also doing TODO on house. it kept all afternoon on my screen. Probably around 3h if I was focusing and doing it from A to Z in one sitting.
@M
Can't wait to migrate my Gitea instance to Forgejo just for this!
Does this mascot have a name yet? (if they discuss the mascot's name the same way they discussed the fork's name in the issue 1 it would be fun to read)
@tuxmain No name yet as far as I know 🙂
Wonderful how these drawings take shape @davidrevoy .. I am trying to inspire my young niece to buy a tablet. She's quite good at drawing on paper already.

About the Mascotte name.. Fabulous suggestion @tuxmain

Let's find a good one 😃

https://codeberg.org/forgejo/meta/issues/54
@smallcircles I had seen it and wouldn't easily have guessed it was a squirrel if there wasn't an acorn on the anvil. Looks very similar to Firefox mascots from around the world, like Kumi in Indonesia, etc Plus, the colors are so close to what Gitlab does.

@gbraad

The colour palette is derived from the melting temperature colour scale of metal.

Can't be helped that fox fur falls into a similar palette 🤷

You're right insofar that the squirrels I have seen have a darker tone (in winter) but the summer fur has a colour similar to the depicted one.

Thank you for your feedback.

@smallcircles@davidrevoy
@RyunoKi I understand this is a reference to 'forging', though it is what he does. Does not have to mean the mascot has to use the same palette. A cute arctic fox would like to be a mascot too 😉. Might even be in line with the codeberg relation.

/cc: @Codeberg@forgejo
@gbraad No worry, There will be always a 'it looks like something I saw' or 'colors are too similar to X'.
From the ref I see here and the first salve of feedback I received about this after a lot of screen impressions, this minor resemblance wasn't even mentioned so far.

Artic Fox (but also a white wolf and white bear, etc... ) are all problematic mascots because they convey 'whiteness'. Not the best indirect message for an inclusive FOSS project...

@RyunoKi@Codeberg@forgejo
@RyunoKi@Codeberg@forgejo I hadn't considered white-washing/whiteness, but is a good point.

perhaps the close resemblance is more of an Asian thing. In this region I am more used to seeing regional mascots associated with Firefox that all resemble the red panda is some form.

Would be interested to see where some of the feedback is collected. and, are there other entries or proposals? Perhaps it is just the pose and the 'details' that make it harder to distinguish.
Just thinking about it why I might not immediately register; perhaps a pointier nose and slightly more prominent cheeks? Red Panda's have a very characteristic round face with a stubby nose... while squirrels are known to stuff their cheeks with acorns and have a pointy nose... and a super fluffy tail. 😄
@gbraad Thanks for the feedback! I'll note it and work on it 🙂
Wait Krita has a recorder? I feel so dumb. :cat-die:
Very nice work though. 👍
@Tene No worry, it's pretty recent (a bit less than a year ago, for Krita 5.0 and Krita 5 was packed with many update it was a bit flooded in the release notes). You'll find it on the "Recorder" docker. It has record, options and export button. Easy to use but it's better to make a test or two to doodle with it before making something a bit more advanced 🙂
@Tene
C'est vraiment trop chouette ce que tu fais et merci de partager ton travail 🤩
TIL krita has built-in recorder. Merci ;)
Thanking for sharing. I hope it's okay to ask a couple of questions?

In your sketching phase, are you using a transparent brush and transparent eraser to build the values? Or is it different shades of the same brown?

I'm also curious, do you use brown for that stage rather than grayscale so it will be easier to add the pencil lines, because it contrasts better?
@ScruffyDux Hey, thanks. Sure for the questions. it's a brush I made that does variations of opacity depending the pressure of the stylus, I describe it here https://youtu.be/UrmoHqPUfTg?t=1318 , To obtain various shade, I also color pick with Ctrl key while painting. In this one, I used brown just because it was already selected. Any color when turning low opacity the layer are good to draw the pencil over.
That was wonderful, thank you! Now to go back and watch the full video, and install your brush pack.
Excellent work in progress. Processus créatif que je vais montrer à mes élèves pour leur prouver que l'esquisse est utile avant tout 😅

Oh, very (very) nice!

1. We can see all pentimenti (which is über cool to appreciate your work: helmet, hammer, shadow, hazelnut, etc.)
2. how long dit it take in real life?

TIL that Krita has a record timelapse feature... Not that I need it, but I wonder how many else have no clue... @karpour and @yamavu ?
@atkelar@karpour@yamavu Oh yes, it's nice. I still have the doc in one my tab, https://docs.krita.org/en/reference_manual/dockers/recorder_docker.html here is the link if it helps.
Hey, I'm kinda curious, do you still have the project file for this? It could be useful to have a version of this with a transparent background if it wouldn't be much trouble to render it out.

(sorry for for replying to this old thread :blobfox:)
@crystal Hey, no problem for answering an old thread. The Krita file is here: https://www.peppercarrot.com/en/viewer/comissions-src__2022-11-27_Forgejo_by-David-Revoy.html , but to get a variety of edges I painted it without preserving an alpha background. You'll find many white paint strokes outside of the character. If you come with a good alpha mask on the full resolution, let me know, I'll integrate back into the source file with pleasure.
Wow, the resolution on this is incredibly high. This is great, thank you! I'll let you know if I manage to get a good alpha mask. :blobfoxheartcute:
