Process:
The Sketch VS The Final
Step 1. Blocking shapes (no details).
Digital painting with a painterly brushwork of a young woman with red hair and an armor. She stands in the middle of a landscape with a large black sword on her shoulder. Her expression is relaxed, she closes her eyes. The weather is cloudy, and the temperature of colors and saturation was designed to feel like an overcast light from a celtic land.
Step 2. Final.
Beautiful, very nice πŸ˜Šβ€οΈπŸ‘
The sketch in itself is already so good, that could be a finished one by itself (as different art style). πŸ€”
It's a hot topic on the comments already, I replied to it and I also agree. Thank you for your feedback!

Edit: I saw you posted this one on the Process/4K/License follow up message; if you are interested to read the comments about the breast/plate; it's on the topic where I posted the artwork: https://framapiaf.org/@davidrevoy/109399492834827786 , I felt it was important to mention it and edit my message.

Very pretty! Reminds me (a bit) of Saber in Fate/Stay Night.
As someone learning to draw, this is pretty inspirational. Thanks for sharing the 4k version!
@ghostRadioGames The frustration, the motivation, the resistance to go back after many fails. Oh I know that; especially when going outside of the comfort zone to gain skill. It's hard! I have no other solution than being stuborn at core. I wish you'll find the same rebellion against that part that resist in you. Courage! πŸ™‚
@bloodaxe Thank you very much! (and so cool your avatar animation!).
@gee C'est la nouvelle assistante de #superflu ?
I've been interested in exploring different ways of sketching or planning artworks lately. Did you do a contour/line sketch before this, or did you just go right into blocking in areas of colour? I'd be very interested in the process you went through for this sketch, and any tips for people looking to sketch this way!
@greenwithenby hey! Yes, I started with a thin pencil scribble in the same vein as this one https://www.davidrevoy.com/data/images/blog/2022/2022-11-14_enjoying-the-trip_a.jpg , it helps me to solve the 'what to draw and where' question, and set basic direction, general lines and get proportion. It's a really temporary guideline and I prefer to call that one a 'wireframe' or 'skeleton' to not be tempted to get a real drawing and start rendering parts. I use a thin tool so this lines influencate the minimum my values when I paint under β†’ 1/2
@greenwithenby β†’ 2/2
and I reduce also the opacity of this wireframe. Then I start painting the silhouette (with help of layers) and I paint the model in shadows (only global illumination, 'sky dome' light). Then I start adding keylight to the center of interest; here the face. That gives me a direction to apply same light direction to all object on the scene. I try to keep a clean split per object and not 'model' gradients.
That's all my step and discipline so far to 'block' the scene. πŸ™‚
thank you I am new to masta and will try to figure that out.
Why did I asked for a selfying duck ? I should have asked you a red head sword woman ! 😍
