Kind of wish #Pleroma would create notifications for every response in one of my threads, rather than every time a status mentions me.

There are a handful of platforms that do not produce mentions in the reply body (Friendica), whereas others use the Display Name for mentions (Hubzilla, Zap).

It'd be kind of neat if we could "Switch Notification Styles" from microblogging to something more like Facebook.

Isn't it wanting your cake and have it though? I thought Pleroma was supposed to be the smallest AP-compatible microblogging platform possible. Any additional feature pushes it further from the founding philosophy, inching closer to the dreaded Mastodon bloat.
Alternatively, maybe there's a way that platforms could standardize things like mentions, in a way that frontends could easy render the display of them to look as native as possible on the receiving end.

So like, a reply in a Friendica comment thread could strip the mention if it's addressed to the OP, but a reply in Mastodon could append the mention if it's missing.
We, huh, do that already. Both ways. We strip the mentions coming from AP if it makes sense in the thread (we keep extra mentions of people not in the thread so far) and we prepend the mentions in outgoing message body to AP servers not to confuse them.
