Yesterday's sketch session during a poetry festival held in Penne, a pretty village not far from where I live. I really enjoy these new sheets of kraft paper.

#MastoArt #Sketch

A photo of a table (top view) with four sheets of kraft paper with black and white sketches:
1. A man with long hair, black shirt and a microphone, in background another man in white with a hat.
2. A street of the village of Penne.
3. The bell tower of the church of Penne.
4. Houses of the village of Penne.

It looks awesome, I can really feel the vibes of that festival 😁.

According Kraft paper (Kraftpapier):
I also tried it multiple times but I never got comfortable with it.
- It is too rough and only very soft of pencils / charcoal / pastels work on it.
- Additionally, clean erasing often does not work and might damage the surface.

But you did a great job here with Kraftpapier. 👍

@brandkopf Thanks! Totally true about the roughness. I'm an addict user of 'pierre noire' (couldn't find an English name, https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pierre_noire_(dessin) ) It's soft like a 6B pencil, but without metallic reflection, it smudge less, it is more black also and not powdery like charcoal. I don't need to 'fix/spray them' , on the downside; it can't be erased; that's why It's ok on Kraft 😆

thanks for the hint. So then it makes sense, since erasing on kraft is anyhow difficult then you go "all in" and use the pierre noire.

I found at least the German word for it "Schwarzsteinstift" ... so something like "Black stone pencil". Seems to be a "coal with a little bit of fat". Maybe I will try it in the future ✍️

@brandkopf It seems to translate into English as 'black chalk' which I had heard of but never tried, so it could well be. I now have a new thing to look up.
@dianaprobst @brandkopf If it helps, here is how look a the box and the brand I bought. It comes from the 2000 era, I used to make portraits and caricatures during summer in Avignon and built up a little stock at that time so i still use that 😅
A box of Cretacolor nero soft lead.

Oh, this is nice !

I do love Pepper & Carrot, and the fantasy themes as you draw for Contributopia, but this is nice to see something from you in a completely different setting than I am used to 😀

Penne is a lovely medieval place (with a good restaurant also) : we (as a family) use to be there (in the valley) to refesh ourselves in hot days... We have a lot of chance to be close to this place and valley.
Such gorgeous sketches!!! 🤩😍🤩😍🤩
Wow! You used white-out on brown paper for the highlights? Genius!

Amazing sketches! I love drawings from live events like this, so it's a really pleasant surprise to see you do it.

It's fun that for me it still has some fantasy vibe to it (helped greatly by the beautiful village, but because of the microphone, in a steampunk kind of way hehe), making it look even more interesting.

I sometimes have this weird though of do we do justice to the tree that died from which the paper come from. These artwork definitely does. Well done David Revoy! Outstanding work!

"Penne" as in "Penne d'Agenais"???

I think I recognize it.

Your sketches are beautiful by the way.

@David Thanks! It's not Penne d'Agenais (yep, this one is also nearby home and cute) it's the one on the other side 😅 https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penne_(Tarn) . So many places here have similar names 😆

Thanks. Strangely, I'm not very familiar with the Tarn, except for Cordes-sur-Ciel (whereas I know most of Lot-et-Garonne, Tarn-et-Garonne, Lot and Dordogne, and a bit of Aveyron)

🙂
