A significant fraction of the health care in the US is now done in the Emergency Room.

I believe that. People can’t afford insurance.

My long time doctor quit to work in an ER because he was “tired of all the paperwork.”

I met someone that quit working as an ER nurse to work in the morgue. He said "In the morgue, they are not moaning and dying or trying to stab people. It is much less stressful."

Many nurses will eventually leave the ER for some other nursing position - but this is the first time I've heard of someone moving down the chain.

Interesting @Brian Fitzgerald. My brother-in-law was in medicine in college but didn’t want to deal with people, so he wanted to be a pathologist who worked on dead bodies. He has a logical mind. Ended up working as a computer consultant for attorneys.

Many people have no idea how stressful nursing can be. My younger daughter has worked in a hospital for 25 years, or more. She was a Caregiver, lowest nursing level, they do most of the hard work. She is now floor secretary which is easier on her back, no more working with heavy patients, etc.

My mother was a hospital nurse, but after a couple decades of that, she went into Public Health Nursing.
