That's #RevolutionsIRC I'm using there. It looks neat enough, certainly nicer than the various YAAIC derivatives I tried a few years back, but a native IRC client on a mobile terminal really isn't optimal.
So #matrix isn't set up with #libera yet, but a kind soul on IRC reminded me that #biboumi exists, and tipped me off that disroot has one running.

I'll set that up instead of waiting for a matrix.org bridge, and I'll do an #HPREp on the steps required with Conversations and a SASL login to libera. It's going to involve using a second XMPP client that supports XEP-0050.
That was almost disappointingly straightforward.

I used Psi on the desktop and followed https://howto.disroot.org/en/tutorials/chat/gateways/irc and boom I was on Libera.

Now discussing the complexity of this setup with grumpy IRC friends. :-D
And I joined Matrix over XMPP!

#nix:nixos.org is #nix#nixos.org@matrix.org and that's it!

Uninstalled Revolution and Element and now I'm down to "only" 5 IM apps again. (actually I don't actively use Briar tho)
People on the Matrix channel are using blockquotes and slanted text and monospace and it all translates just fine to the XMPP side. I like it.
do you know what gateway they're using to bridge to matrix?
What exactly is Bifrost doing? Means: What exactly is needed as prerequisite. Does it synchronise three different existing chat rooms on IRC, XMPP and Matrix without any needed via the regular users. Or does a user on Matrix has to use it to connect to an IRC or XMPP room and some user on XMPP has to use it to connect to an Matrix room?
Bifrost is something that Matrix peeps can set up so they can talk to XMPP people and have a presence on XMPP. Not the other way around.

Although, of course, once something from Matrix (such as the Nix room) is present on XMPP, then XMPP peeps can participate in that.
What does "peeps" stand for?
