Forecast for the Autumn here is very wet and stormy...

When sunlight hits small waves or ripples on the water’s surface, the curved water acts as a set of moving, variable lenses. Sunlight is focused into narrow, high-intensity sheets or “caustics” (the dancing light patterns you see on the bottom of a swimming pool). These concentrated sheets of light function just like the focused beam of a slit lamp as they slice through the water column.

I'm thinking that ripples in the water are more like curved lenses and not much like slits.

Duh. Of course ripples are not slits, but they both produce caustics. The caustics which enhance visibility of the Tyndall scattering work in the same way in both cases.
It’s actually cool (upper 60sF) and rainy this afternoon. Almost feels like fall. I went out and washed my patio door. Refreshing. 🎃
AI seems to have gotten the concepts of lenses and slits mixed up.
Tom, I think you have not grasped a “slice of light or a caustic” as being the same, regardless of method of light occlusion. Tyndall scattering is the key here.
