Although thistles are a “weed” here, love that blossom @Shonie Hutter.
I've been tempted to sow a row of thistles close to the sidewalk to keep inconsiderate dog-owners and their pets away, but thistles would probably spread too easily and it would be hard to mow the lawn on the slope that comes up from the sidewalk. The owhers usually pick up the poop, but the dogs like to scratch the garden and lawn to mark "their" territory.

It’s why it’s considered a “weed” here @Brian Fitzgerald. They spread like crazy.

Speaking of which, the dandelions are in their golden glory everywhere.

A weed is just the plant you don't want. I know of no other viable definition.
To me, a weed is something that chokes out other plants. Peppermint can be a weed. You have to plant it carefully.
And when it is where you want it - is it a weed?
I'm not sure why most of the "good plants" are so fussy and easily crowded out.

We’re entering a gray area but I’d say No @Simon Ashcroft

Maybe that’s why they’re more prized @Brian Fitzgerald. It’s why people grow difficult to grow things, I guess. For me, I’ve come to value the hardy, difficult to kill perennials as I’ve gotten older. The annuals are too much work. Although I saw pots of annuals being sold outside a store yesterday and was mightily tempted.

@Katherine Bond I'm going for more herbs and then learning what they're good for healing. I've a need for a new parsley to keep my theme of parsley sage rosemary and thyme. When the thistle down flies it's everywhere just like the dandelions!

Very Simon and Garfunkel of you @Shonie Hutter. lol

When the cottonwoods are in seed, it looks like it’s snowing in my garden.
I just learned yesterday how high in vitamin C parsley is. I’m going to eat my parsley from now on.

There's a lot we should know or remember. Are we moving forward or backward. Hopefully to simpler times. Parsley also dispels the odour of garlic 😀
. Ah yes he once was a true love of mine 😀
A lot of driveway sealing gets done when the cottonwoods cast their seeds to the wind.
I have warm memories of that era, so why not travel back to them @Shonie Hutter?
