I can't find the search box in this interface.
Screenshot of a Mastodon home timeline on mobile web. No magnifying glass icon is visible.
tapping the hash symbol should bring you a search box
@edendestroyer it helps! It's just that search has a really well-established visual vocabulary.
@edendestroyer@big To be honest, it's pretty counter-intuitive, as you'd normally expect the hash symbol to *list* hashtags, not allow you to search. Add to that the fact that the search box uses a magnifying glass icon at larger widths—a more common and recognizable symbol for search—and you'd expect that they'd use the same icon at smaller widths; that's not the case. It's an inconsistent #UI.
@dragfyre@big oh I'm not trying to posit the design as being ideal or sound, just that I answered a question that Evan needed an answer to and was wondering if I didnt help.
given how the "search" basically doesn't work for anything other than hashtags, I think it's misleading to have it called that anywhere
click on the hashtag icon on the right sidebar, it's under there.
Serious answer: I have no idea. Is it under the hamburger dots or the ellipsis?

Joke answer: It's a gesture-based interface where you throw the phone as hard as you can against a hard surface.
Took me a little bit too. I can come up with a couple of different ways they could do it, but would have to have some time with them to figure out which I prefer.
On Twitter a bunch of trending stuff pops up when you try to search, but here a search bar pops up when you go to trending

Evan Prodromou reshared this.

I experienced the same issue today, ended up using the desktop website instead to see it.

Content warning: caps, frustrated
